A HACKER'S LIFE - 26 FACTS ON WIKILEAKS AND JULIAN ASSANGE

Julian Assange, founder of the controversial Internet project WikiLeaks, just a few days has become a global superstar whose popularity is comparable to the largest-known politicians, actors or musicians. Whenever you log-in your online account your password will be hidden by asterisk symbol due to security reasons. But if you want to check that you have typed correct password or not means its not possible due to security reasons.

Some times Caps Lock may on so that you may type wrong password. Many web services such as online banking or mail services come with security login feature (https), these services give you only few chance (3 to 5 times) to enter the correct password. If you fail to do so then it may be possible that your account get banned or locked.

You can add file download links to the queue and it will automatically download each of the files one by one. After one file is downloaded, it takes next one from the queue. No need to click on anything else.

After you install this extension, a small icon appears at the end of the address bar. Go to any Rapidshare search engine and search for any file you want to download. Once you click on the file, it will be automatically added in the queue. Add as many files as you want.

Click on the small icon on the address bar and a pop up will appear showing all the queued files. You can skip a file, add, delete, clear, move first and refresh the links with the help of options given at the bottom of the window.

But, it won't use any other download managers which you are using in your system, so be careful as it will start download when you start Chrome. If we want to get the text from a PDF file means it is not possible using PDF reader as it is not having an in-built option for that. Suppose if we want the text from a PDF file then we can't just copy and paste. Once I want the text from a PDF file. So I searched in the web to get such a software.

There is a software called A-PDF which is used to extract the text from the PDF file. We have to download and install this small (875 KB) application on our computer. Click Open button on that software and select the PDF file on your computer.

If you want to extract page number 4 to page number 6 then fill the number 4 and 6 in the box titled “Page from” in the option button. There is also an option to extract text from odd and even pages.

After conversion a small dialog box appears prompting you to open the extracted text file. Click on “Yes” button to open it in a notepad.

HOW TO DELETE ALL RECENT HISTORY IN WINDOWS 7 JUMP LISTS

Windows 7 has a new option which is called jump list. This new option is helpful for us to easily access various functions which are accessed by us. Jump Lists, which is popping up and displayed whenever user right clicks on an icon or button on Taskbar. It is also shows recent items that opened or closed by the app, or frequently used or most visited items by the program.

By clicking the file name in the Jump list we can directly access the file. This is a useful one only, but if we are using public computers means we have to delete such a history to protect our work.

We can delete the file name from the Jump list by Right clicking on the file name and click "Remove From This List" However we can delete only one file name at a time.

If we want to delete all the history from all the programs means we have a simple way. Copy and paste the following line in windows address bar.

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

This will open a folder which contains only automaticDestination-ms files. The files store the information of recent items to display on the Jump Lists.

As all the file names are similar we can't identify that which file belongs to which program. So if we want to delete all the history means delete all the files in the folder. This will delete all your History from Jump lists.

If you press Ctrl+Shift+T again then it will open the second last closed tab.

Press Ctrl + Shift + T to open the last closed tab.

If you press Ctrl+Shift+T again then it will open the second last closed tab (Same as Firefox)

As we know well Google Chrome is one of the leading browser. I am also using Chrome to browse on net. But I was not knew how to update it. Then I searched in Chrome's "Customize and control Google Chrome" option. There I have found how to update Google Chrome. I have given the steps to update Google Chrome below.

STEP I :

In Google chrome, click on the wrench icon (customize and control Chrome) given at the top right. Go to “About Google Chrome” by clicking it. A new window will be opened.

STEP II :

Now it will start searching new updates automatically.

After the completion of searching if any new version of Google Chrome is available means, it will show the following window.

STEP III :

In the above new window click Update Now button.

Now it will start to update your Google Chrome. After the completion of update you have to restart your Chrome to use the new version.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNT FROM HACKERS

                        Last week one of my friend has lost his Gmail account. Someone hacked my friend's Gmail account. There is no way to get that account again. So I searched about hacking and while searching I got the following.
Hackers at Defcon demonstrated a tool to hack into GMail accounts by snooping unencrypted data (man-in-the-middle attack) with cookie which Google GMail uses for everything other than login by default.

                         Google introduced the ability to optionally encrypt any transmission to / from GMail and not just the login sequence. Previously GMail used to encrypt the login sequence only. All other data was transmitted unencrypted over the wire making such hacking possible. Every email, every article that you are reading on your GMail account is transmitted unencrypted over the web.

                          This makes it possible for an attacker sniffing traffic on the network to insert an image served from http://mail.google.com and force your browser to send the cookie file, thus getting your session ID. Once this happens the attacker can log in to the account without the need of a password. People checking their e-mail from public wireless hotspots are obviously more likely to get attacked than the ones using secure wired networks.

How can you protect your GMail account from hacking?

                         The solution is surprisingly simple. After logging in to GMail go to Settings (General tab). At the bottom of the page you will notice Browser Connection. Change it to Always use https. Now save the settings. In Google's words:

    To enable this feature in Gmail:

       1. Sign in to Gmail.
       2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
       3. Set 'Browser Connection' to 'Always use https.'
       4. Click Save Changes.
       5. Reload Gmail.

                           That's all you need to protect your GMail account from getting hacked. However there are few caveats.
   1. GMail may become slightly slower. Personally I think it is an acceptable cost for security but you decide.
   2. Gmail Notifier users must download a patch for GMail Notifier (Gmail Notifier is a downloadable application that alerts you whenever you have new Gmail messages) to work with this setting.
   3. You may see errors in the Gmail for mobile application from enabling this setting.

HOW TO CREATE WALLPAPERS USING iTunes

While I was hearing music in iTunes, I came across a trick to create wallpapers through it. By using this trick you can also create any wallpaper.

STEPS :

1. Open iTunes. Play any song.
2. Press Ctrl+T to turn on the visualizer.
3. Now pause the song you are playing.
4. Now, press Ctrl+F to switch to full screen mode.
5. Wait for the background you like. Press Prnt Screen from your keyboard.

6. Again press Ctrl+T to turn the visualizer Off.
7. Now go to Paint located in Programs->Accessories->Paint.
8. Paste the image in paint (Keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V).
9. Save the image in the desired folder (Ctrl+S).
10. Now you are done creating your own wallpaper.

HOW TO DESIGN E-BOOK COVER IN SIMPLE METHOD USING PHOTOSHOP

                         While working in Photoshop I have found a simple method to design eBook covers. In this post I have explained the steps. To design eBook cover you should have Adobe Photoshop and a little knowledge about using Photoshop.

STEPS :

Step1:
                          Download 3 photoshop actions by clicking this link. This is a ZIP file and when you will unzip it you will get the following files.

   1. Ezine Spiral Binding Book Design

   3. PaperBack Book

Step2:
                         After downloading the actions, select your design that you want for your eBook. I have selected PaperBack.

Step3:
                         Now, open Adobe Photoshop and at the top Click on Windows and select Actions (Short cut is type Alt+F9). Doing this will open Actions window.

Step4:
                         In the Action box, in the right hand side click on the small arrow pointing downwards and select Load Actions as per the below.

Step5:
Now, navigate to your paperback.atn file and click on Load. This will bring the action file into the Action box.

Step6:
There are two steps in each action and we have to play each step one by one. Now, after loading the action file, click on the arrow beside the name of the action. Clicking on arrow will expand it into Step1 and Step2.

Step7:
Now, click on Step1 to highlight it and at the bottom of the action box click on Play button.As you will click on play button, Photoshop will start working automatically. After the Step1 will get completed click on Stop and edit the text. Repeat this step again for Step2 also.

NOW WE CAN DRAG AND DROP IMAGES INTO E-MAIL MESSAGE BODY OF GMAIL

While I browse on internet I came to know about the drag and drop functionality to insert image into message body of our mail. Gmail has added the new functionality to drag and drop images from our computer to the message body of our email.

In my old post I had mentioned about Drag and Drop attachments into Gmail instead of attach a new file. This will take less time than the attach a new file into Gmail.

Now Gmail has added another cool feature, so that we can attach images in the email message body by drag and drop from our desktop, or from any other folder in our computer.

If we want to attach many images we don't want to click the “image upload” button and upload each file one by one. We can select all the image files and drag them in the message body.

Now the image files are inserted into our e-mail message body.

Now, all the images will be uploaded and when the uploading is complete, we can align, re-size the images as per our wish. But, this new feature is only available for Google Chrome users. Gmail will implement this function soon for other browsers also.

We can sync our bookmarks from Google Chrome to our Google account. If you want to store the bookmarks in Chrome from one computer to another computer, you can use Chrome's inbuilt bookmarks sync feature. Google Chrome sync makes it easy to share your data (such as bookmarks and preferences) between your computers. Google Chrome synchronizes your data by storing it online with Google when you login with our Google Account. The bookmarks sync feature in Google Chrome backs up your browser bookmarks to your Google account and syncs them when you are on Chrome on a different computer.

Steps to Sync :
In Google chrome, click on the wrench icon (customize and control Chrome) given at the top right.

Go to “Set up sync...” by clicking it.

A new window will be opened. In the new window, sign in with your Google account.

After signing in, all the bookmarks will get transferred to Google’s servers. A success notification will appear. Click OK in the success notification.

Now the bookmarks are synchronized. An easy way to get all your bookmarks on any computer connected to the internet. If you make any change in bookmarks on one computer, the change will appear immediately on the second computer.

I already posted about how to hear selected web content in my old post. Now Google has introduced "Text-to-Speech" which is used to hear the written text in many languages. One of the popular features of Google Translate is the ability to hear translations spoken out loud (”text-to-speech”). We can hear it by clicking the speaker icon beside some translations.

Google rolled this feature out for English and Haitian Creole translations a few months ago. Then added French, Italian, German, Hindi and Spanish before two weeks. Now Google is bringing text-to-speech to even more languages with the open source speech synthesizer, eSpeak.

By integrating eSpeak Google is adding text-to-speech functionality for Afrikaans, Albanian, Catalan, Chinese (Mandarin), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Latvian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Swahili, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese and Welsh.

You may notice that the audio quality of these languages isn’t at the same level as the previously released languages. Clear and accurate speech technology is difficult to perfect, but Google will continue to improve the performance and number of languages that are supported.

So, Try this by clicking the on the speaker icon for any of these translations: “nice website” in Greek, “i like you” in Chinese or “john” in Finnish.

5. It will show you a popup showing that your account registration was successful.

HOW TO PREVENT DELETING SEARCH HISTORY IN IE

                         I already posted about how to delete your Google search history from tour browser. So that anyone can easily delete his web activity using the steps.

           But consider a situation if someone using your computer, then you may not want that person to delete all the cookies and history. Now in this article I have given you the ideas about the ways to prevent an user from deleting them in Internet Explorer.

Steps :

1. Click on Start button. Type gpedit.msc in the search box and press enter.

2. In Local Group policy editor click Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates-> Windows Components-> Internet Explorer-> Delete browsing history.

3. You can find options for prevent deleting cookies, private filtering data, history, temporary internet files, favorite site data etc.

4. Right click on “Prevent deleting cookies”. Select “edit” from the menu.

5. Select the “Enable” option and click OK.

6. Like that right click on “Prevent deleting websites that the user has visited” and select "Enable" and click OK.

7. If you want to check the above steps, try to delete cookies as I posted in my old post. But you can’t select checkbox next to Cookies to delete.
You can see there is a notification at the bottom that says, “Some settings are managed by your system administrator”.

HOW TO DELETE GOOGLE SEARCH HISTORY IN YOUR BROWSER

As you know that whatever you search on the net is stored in your browser history. The advantage is that it is searchable and you could lookup the site you visited, or the search term you used. But the disadvantage is it’s searchable. Anyone with access to your PC could check what you checked in web.

Procedure to delete Google search history in Internet Explorer :

* If you are using Internet Explorer, then you can delete history by going to Tools-> Internet options.

* Now under Browsing History area, click on “Delete” button.

* Delete Browsing History window will appear.

* Click on “Delete History” button if you want to delete record of all the websites you visited.

* Click on Delete password button, if you want to delete cookies, temporary internet files, form data and passwords.

Procedure to delete Google search history in Firefox :

* Go to Tools-> Clear Recent History or simply press Ctrl+Shift+Del button of your keyboard.

* Clear recent History box will appear.

* Now check the options you want to delete.

* After checking the options, click “Clear Now” button.

Now the history is deleted.

Procedure to Google search history in Google Chrome :

* In Google chrome, click on the wrench icon (customize and control Chrome) given at the top right.

* Now select “Options” from the drop down menu.

Google maps is one of the best options, when we need to find directions, addresses and location routes. We can access Google maps from any part of the world, as long as we have access to an active Internet connection.

But if we want to access Google maps in offline means we have to save some important locations in Google maps and want to view them.
